The core of icotec’s breakthrough lies in the Blackarmor® technology, which makes implants invisible on MRI and CT scans. This allows for uninterrupted imaging of the spine and surrounding tissue – critical for patients undergoing radiation therapy or post-operative monitoring. Unlike traditional titanium implants, which block imaging and scatter radiation, Blackarmor® enables clearer diagnostics and more accurate treatment planning. As a result, clinical studies show that tumour recurrences are detected twice as early and occur 83 per cent less frequently compared to metal-based alternatives.

Clinically Proven, Internationally Recognised

With more than 20 000 patients treated, icotec’s impact is well established. The company’s products are not only cleared by the FDA and marked with CE certification, but also included in US and German spine cancer treatment guidelines – a milestone that validates both safety and efficacy. In the US, the implants have received the Breakthrough Device Designation (BDD) from the FDA and are eligible for CMS New Technology Add-On Payments (NTAP), providing hospitals with up to 28 000 US dollars in additional reimbursement per case.

Scaling Globally with Purpose

With a compound annual growth rate of 40 per cent, icotec is scaling fast across its core markets. The US accounts for the majority of revenue, supported by a direct sales force and access to leading academic hospitals. icotec also maintains direct operations in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, while serving more than 20 additional countries through trusted distribution partners. Expansion into Japan, the world’s second-largest spine market, is planned.

Expanding the Portfolio, Extending the Vision

icotec continues to expand its product portfolio to address new indications beyond spinal tumours and spinal infections. The upcoming launch of the CMORE® posterior cervical system and a next-generation minimal-invasive (MIS) screw system will help address complex cases such as spinal deformities and severe osteoporosis. At the same time, investments in 3D-printing technology are laying the groundwork for custom, patient-specific implants – further strengthening the company’s role as a medical technology pioneer.
